SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER
Jim Geary, Board
President
How
exciting that our September sectional is here and what a great opportunity
to welcome people to
the tournament and to extend our hospitality and
friendliness. The exterior of
the club looks better than it has looked in years and we can be proud of the
improvements we have made this year.
Our outstanding club members continue to support and volunteer their
time in numerous ways that make our club strong and enables us to provide a
comfortable space to play bridge while keeping costs down.
Thank you one and all!
Our
sectional begins on Thursday September 9 and continues through Sunday
September 12. Morning and
afternoon games are offered and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and
activities commence with a free lesson beginning at 9:15.
Sunday’s game will be a play through Swiss team game that will
include lunch. Parking spaces
may be limited therefore we are asking members who are able to park on the
side street which will provide plenty of space for other attendees.

TABLE ETIQUETTE
Our upcoming sectional is
a good time to remind ourselves of the importance of interacting with others
in a welcoming and friendly manner.
Let’s remember that bridge is a game and nothing helps our membership
grow like a warm smile and a friendly hello.
Introduce yourself to new players at the table and refrain from
discussing previous hands.
Let’s keep our irritation level in check.
If you find yourself irritated take a deep breath and pause long
enough to remember that our partners and opponents are doing the best they
can. It is more important to
get a top in friendliness and courtesy than scoring points and alienating
others from a game we love.
REFIGERATOR
The board agreed to
replace the pantry’s refrigerator.
The ice maker was no longer working and could not be repaired.
The refrigerator was fifteen years old and it was time to retire it.
The board voted to purchase a 22 cubic foot Sears Kenmore
refrigerator with ice maker. We
also opted to purchase a five year protection and maintenance plan that will
cover all labor, parts, and annual maintenance checks.
The total cost for the refrigerator and maintenance protection plan
was $1300.00.
BOARD MEMBERS
In November we will be
electing new members to the board.
Our current bylaws stipulate that we have a nine member board.
Because of health concerns, time restraints and personal reasons
three of our directors have resigned this year.
Since we had no alternates available we are now operating with six
members. Three of these
members, DONNA BENOY, LYNN BROWN, and JIM GEARY terms are up this November.
Both DONNA and JIM have decided to serve another term if elected.
LYNN BROWN has decided not to serve again on the board but will
continue to serve our club as co-chair of our tournaments.
This means that in addition to positions currently held by DONNA and
JIM and we need to elect at least four new members to the board.
Hopefully, in addition to these new members we will have one or two
alternate members available to complete the terms of elected members if they
need to step down during their terms.
Please consider supporting your club by being on the board.
Board meeting are held once monthly and board members work with
committees in assuring that our club runs smoothly.
MATIE’S Beginning Bridge
Class begins on Thursday October 7 at 9:30.
Flyers are available at the club, please help our membership by
picking up some flyers and distributing them to people and places who might
be interested and/or who will post them.
Thank you!!!
