Wednesday, Feb 23rd, 2005 - A Quick
Note from Max Bayard
SPECIAL SUNDAY SWISS TEAM GAME will be held this
Sunday, February 27 in honor of Mike Grunstein.
Mike was a member of our club until his death a few
years ago. His background is compelling. He was born in Central
Europe and was caught up in Hitler's ethnic genocide (I refuse to
call it 'cleansing').
He was rescued by Allied soldiers when Auschwitz was liberated.
Mike was an outstanding chess and bridge player and won a Regional
Open Pairs at Orlando the day before dying of a heart attack. Here
are Spike's words, "Mike was always in a good mood
and helpful to newer players... (and) we still miss him."
The day will begin at 11:00 AM and be over about 5:00 PM or so. The
game will consist of two sessions--a typical Sunday Swiss game
will have three rounds of eight boards followed by three more rounds
of eight. The cost is $16 per person for the 'two' sessions and
lunch is included.
This is a 4-person team game, but call Spike,
255-7744, if you, or you and your partner, do not have a team but
would like to play.
The CLUB LIBRARY is open. Many bridge books have
been donated. Take one home--just remember to bring it back soon. If
you have books you can donate, please give them to any Director.
OUR CLUB WEB SITE owes many thanks to two people.
Dave Wright got us up and running when he was
active with the club. His work gave us full Internet exposure, and
we thank him once again for all he did. Bill McManus
is now our Computer Coordinator and has redesigned the web site.
He is giving recommendations to the Board of Directors on the
purchase of new equipment, backing up our data on a regular basis,
and handling the many concerns that arise in computer operations.
Our web site is: daytonabridge.org. From there you can also link to
the site where our game results are posted.
NOTE--if that address still takes you to our former web site (white
background), it means your computer is doing what it has always
done. You can get to the new site by using this address:
www.daytonabridge.org.
Have a great day.
