November 21, 2005

Greetings!
This is a busy time of year at our club with many activities and events. There are opportunities to give and to receive; to learn and to teach; to play and to work; to be amongst friends and to enjoy their company.  It is also a time to give thanks ... and to be thanked ... for supporting our club, being a friend and sharing time with us. Thank You!

Please Note
There is a 1:30 PM game Friday (Nov 25th) after Thanksgiving.  The Friday Night game may be held if enough people sign up at the club.  Contact Linda Miller for details.
Our Tuesday Night games have resumed and start at 7 PM.   Please join us for a relaxing and enjoyable evening of bridge.

December 5 - 11 - Silver point Week is a good time to earn the silver points you need.
We have a visiting guest looking for a partner- Interested? Read more.

A Message from Gary and Lynda Swenson
"GARY and LYNDA SWENSON want to thank everyone at the Daytona Metropolitan Bridge Club for your warm hospitality and willingness to help us play a better bridge game or find a good place to eat in the area.  We will continue to come back about the same time each year and hope that some of you will someday come to Wichita Falls, TX (our legal residence), Ruidoso, NM (our Summer home from early July to early October each year), or to Wilmington, Delaware (we've just got us a place there to be near our younger daughter).  Please be sure to call us before coming (940-781-9999 or e-mail lyndaswen@aol.com) and we'll give you assistance on where to eat, places to play bridge during your stay, or try to answer your other general questions about the area.

Thanks to all of your directors (we really like the lessons and professionalism of all of you).  There are many others we would like to thank but don't want to leave anyone out and so until next year or until you come to a place where we are.  Goodbye."

Thanks Gary and Lynda. We are delighted you came, saddened you left and warmed by the thought of your return.

Toys for Head Start Program
(Drive ends Dec 15th)
Pat and Vivian Heading will once again coordinate our Christmas Toy drive for the Head Start Program.  Our goal is to collect 82 gifts for boys and girls 3-4 years old before Dec 15th.  Please wrap the gifts and label or indicate whether the gift is for a boy or a girl.  If you would prefer to donate money or school supplies, this would be wonderful too.  We appreciate your help and generosity, and as you might imagine, the kids delight in receiving the gifts.  Thanks also to Pat and Vivian Heading and their staff of elves.

Christmas Tree Decorating Party
Join us on Monday, November 28th at 10:00 AM to put up our Christmas tree.  We'll have OJ and Bagels for Santa's little helpers.  If you have an ornament you could contribute to the club we would be most appreciative.  If anyone has an artificial tree they no longer use, please consider donating it to our club.  Please contact Judy McCall.  Thanks.

Christmas Party Monday, Dec 12th

(An Open section and a separate 299er section)
Our Christmas Party will be held on Monday, December 12th.  We will have separate games for Open and 299er members so mark your calendars and plan to attend.  Our Christmas luncheon will start at Noon and the game begins at 1:30 PM.  A main dish will be provided and sign up sheets will be posted at the club for side dishes.

An Easybridge Presenter Class will be taught by Lynn Berg on Monday, December 12th at 8:00 AM at our club.  Please come if you are interested.  The Easybridge program is very important to our club and Lynn is an excellent teacher.

Easybridge 1 class starts Monday, January 16, 2006 at 9:15 AM
Betty Bayard announced: "Our next class of Easybridge 1 will be on Mondays beginning January 16, 2006, at 9:15 AM.  This is an opportunity for people to learn bridge.  No knowledge of the game is needed.  Every year a number of attendees have been referred by you, our current members.  Perhaps you have friends who have wanted to learn, or you may know someone that would benefit from meeting new people.  The first four lessons are free, so do help us spread the word.  Flyers are on the table--take some to hand out.  Call Betty Bayard, 788-0782, with any questions."  Thanks Betty!
Please
tell everyone about this effective, yet fun, way to learn bridge and help post those
Flyers around town.  Thanks for your help!

New Year's Eve dinner and game on Saturday, December 31st
(An Open section and a separate 299er section)
Max Bayard announced: "Our Fourth Annual New Year's Eve dinner and game will be on Saturday, December 31, 2005.  Dinner will be at 6:00 PM and the game at 7:00.  We'll have a 0-299 section and an Open section.  Dinner will be Covered Dish.  Sign-up sheets will be posted right after Thanksgiving.  Bring a dish or snacks or drinks or just bring yourself.  This is truly an enjoyable evening.  Bring your friends, company, visitors and social bridge players.  Everybody is welcome."  Thanks Max.

Club receives books from Arlette Schutte Library
The Daytona Metropolitan Bridge Club has received a large donation of books as "a gift from the Bridge Library of Arlette Schutte."  We are deeply grateful for this generous giftArlette was involved in the early ACBL education programs; she was a great teacher as well as a student of the game.  With this gift, she continues to educate us.  Thanks Arlette.

Please read the ACBL tribute to Arlette:  Read now.
