March 6, 2006

Our St. Patrick's Day party will be held on Thursday, March 16th (a day early).  Club party's are scheduled on days with both an Open and Limited game as we want everyone to attend.  This year's party will feature a traditional corned beef and cabbage luncheon.   We need a head count for meal planning so please sign up at the club or call Judy McCall @ 304-9925 or Shelby Chapdelaine at 756-3803.  Thanks!

At the St. Patrick's Day party
, we will celebrate Club Members achieving the rank of Life Master or higher during the period Jan 1, 2005 through February 28th, 2006.   Judy McCall will be compiling the list so if you know of someone who should be honored, please check with Judy to insure they are included.  Thanks!

FRIDAY NIGHTS:  If you haven't played in our Friday Night Swiss game which starts at 7:00 PM and finishes around 10:30 PM, please give it a try.   Come as a pair (or call Spike if you need a partner), the teams are randomly drawn immediately before the game.  You'll enjoy yourself in the relaxed atmosphere.

Where in the World are Max and Betty Bayard? Answer

Lessons:  Before most games, there is a 15-30 minute free bridge lesson.  These lessons are great!  We have wonderful teachers.  You can find the topics to be covered at Lessons on our web site.  Don't miss them!

EasyBridge:  EasyBridge 1 classes are Monday mornings at 9:15 AM and Easybridge 1 Workshop is Friday morning.  Tell your friends!

Thursday Morning Cancelled: The Thursday Morning game has been cancelled but please remember there is a limited game on Thursday afternoons, lesson at 1 PM and game at 1:30 PM.  We are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience for you.

June in May or June:  Talks are underway with June Byrne for her return to teaching at our club in May or June.  She is a gifted teacher.  Many of us learned bridge from June and are very excited at the prospect of her return.  No specific day has been set but Thursday morning is a candidate.  The Thursday afternoon Limited Game (0-499 and NLM) could be moved to Thursday Morning and become June's game.  Stay tuned for more details.  If you have some ideas, tell Spike, Candy or a Board member.  Thanks!

Mail Bag:  "Dear Sir, I know many of your bridge players are avid Embry Riddle Basketball fans.  How can I follow the Eagles while they are in Branson for the National NAIA Basketball Tournament, March 8-14?"
Please check the Eagle basketball web site http://daytona.embryriddlesports.com/index.asp?path=mbasket .  Thank you for your inquiry.

Computer Corner:  Several club members have raved about the computer classes at SeniorNet so if you have interest in learning or improving your PC skills, check them out.  Or, ask John Sterling for more details.

Editor's Note:  Chocolate scam uncovered:  In last month's newsletter, our webmaster (W. Nerd) claimed Romans in the 4th century B.C. gave chocolate to their webmaster and this brought them good luck for a week.  Nonsense!  We apologize!   Please do not to feed chocolate to the webmaster.

Web Site: The Bulletin Board on our web site is a great place to post bridge questions and read the ongoing bridge discussions.
